LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday sent a questionnaire to the wife and daughters of Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in an investigation regarding money laundering and assets beyond known sources of income.

The questionnaire sent to wife Nusrat Shehbaz and daughters Rabia Imran and Javeria Ali had been dispatched by post to their residences. The document seeks details about transfer of money into their bank accounts.

NAB had summoned Nusrat Shehbaz on April 17 while Rabia Imran and Javeria Ali on April 18 and 19.

However, NAB, after its chief, retired justice Javed Iqbal, held a meeting with Lahore Director General Shahzad Saleem here at the provincial headquarters of the anti-graft watchdog changed its decision and directed to cancel the call-up notices issued to the Sharif family women and send questionnaires only.

The questionnaire sent to three women inquires about their sources of income from 2008-2017 and the money coming in their account from other countries. They have been asked to submit details about their shares in the companies, particulars of persons from/to whom gifts were received and given and the companies from where salaries were withdrawn.

NAB also asked Nusrat Shehbaz to provide details of the sources of funds for acquiring houses — 69-H and 87-H, Model Town, Lahore and Nishat Lodge, Donga Gali, Murree.

The bureau’s decision on Saturday to summon the Shahbaz Sharif’s family women — his wife Nusrat, daughters Rabia Imran and Javaria Ali — for this week generated a lot of criticism from the opposition parties that termed the move “an insult to women”. However, this was not the first time that NAB had summoned women in a case.
