ISLAMABAD: A retired army officer committed suicide in his office in Shalimar area on Thursday. Major (retd) Tanveer Ali, 55, shot himself in the head with a pistol and died on spot, police said. The body of Ali was handed over to his family for burial after his family gave a written statement to the police accepting that he had committed suicide. Ali was heading Karakoram, a private security agency, and went to his office as per routine in the morning, his family told the police. His staff heard a gunshot from the washroom of his office. They rushed to the washroom and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences where the doctors pronounced him dead. His family told the police that he had no personal enmity with anyone. Police said it was too early to ascertain if the ex-army officer was under any pressure or was suffering from depression as the family was in mourning and police could not question them. Ali was a patient of angina, police said.
