According to a Pakistan Railways spokesperson, the trains that will be shut down include the Shah Rukh-e-Alam which runs between Multan and Karachi, the Shalimar Express which mainly runs from Karachi to Lahore and six others.
He added that the locomotive material and switches from the eight trains will be used in operating maintaining the trains which would remain operational.
He also said that two new trains and a goods train will also commence operation soon.
Pakistan Railways had shut down ten passenger trains in May saying owing to a shortage in oil supply.
In April, the government had decided to shut down at least 120 non-revenue generating trains after a decrease in the oil supply.
Earlier, Pakistan Railways reduced its oil stock from three month to one month due to increase in oil prices. It was further trimmed to seven days. Pakistan Railways pay an annual sum of Rs14 billion to purchase oil.
