Nadra: Nine million in Punjab have expired CNICs

LAHORE:

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has urged citizens to renew their expired computerised national identity cards (CNICs) immediately to avoid inconvenience in legal, financial and other matters where a valid CNIC is required.

Col (retired) Muhammad Iqbal, the Nadra Lahore general manager, said that more than 9 million computerised identity cards have expired till date. He said that the expired cards were automatically blocked by the system and could not be used. Citizens cannot operate bank accounts, travel abroad and make purchases, sales, and transfers of property with expired CNICs, he said.

He said that citizens could apply for new CNICs 90 days before expiry date. No documents, except original CNIC  are required for the renewal of the CNIC, he said. No attestation is required, he said.
