Eminence recognised: Thirteen men, six women artists get Cholistan awards

A new FM station will soon be setup in Bahawalpur, says PBC director general.

Thirteen men and six women were awarded at the 13th Cholistan Awards Ceremony at the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur on Wednesday.


The awards ceremony was organised by the IUB in collaboration with the Cholistan Development Council.

The award winners included singers Jameel Parwana and Naseer Mastana, shehnain nawaz Malang Hussain and zeel nawaz Mureed Hussain.

Speaking on the occaison, Bahawalpur Division commissioner Mian Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed said the ceremony was a testament to the rich tradition of arts, crafts and music in the south Punjab region. He said some people were spreading rumours that south Punjab was a hub of terrorism.

He said the people of Cholistan desert and Bahawalpur division loved peace.
Earlier, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation director general Murtaza Solangi said that Pakistan was a land of diverse people and cultures and that Radio Pakistan would keep playing its key in promoting these cultures. He said despite the unprecedented freedom of media, no television channel or radio station could compete with Radio Pakistan when it came to coverage of regional languages.

Solangi announced that a five-kilowatt FM radio station and a latest digital studio would soon be set up in Bahawalpur. South Asia Partnership executive director Muhammad Tehseen also spoke on the occasion. Special awards were presented to Chinese ambassador Liu Jian, Bahawalpur Division commissioner Mian Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed and IUB vice chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar.
