Judicial remand of Aleem Khan extended till April 20

NAB produces PTI leader before the court in Lahore on expiry of his judicial remand

An accountability court on Thursday extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan till April 20 in the assets beyond means case, reported Radio Pakistan.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the PTI leader before the court in Lahore on Thursday.



Strict security arrangements were made on the occasion while a number of party workers were also present to support him.

Aleem was taken into custody by NAB in February for having assets beyond known sources of income.

The senior Punjab minister was arrested after he appeared before the anti-graft watchdog in a case pertaining to the offshore company revealed in the Panama Papers leaks and accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

After his arrest, Aleem also stepped down as a provincial minister.

NAB had earlier summoned Aleem twice but he failed to convince the accountability watchdog. Later, it asked the PTI leader to produce more documents in the case.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Aleem owned multiple apartments in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK).

The NAB had also opened a probe against him in the Hexam Investment Overseas Limited, an off-shore company and the Park View Housing Society. The bureau had also started a probe into the assets owned by Khan’s relatives and friends.



The anti-graft watchdog alleged that Aleem, being the secretary of the “Parkview Cooperative Housing Society”, a member of the Punjab Assembly and Minister for Information Technology, held “Public Office” and “during the said period accused has been involved in the acts of corruption and corrupt practices”.

The NAB also alleged that the PTI leader accumulated assets beyond known sources of income within Pakistan and outside.
