Govt making efforts to overcome unemployment: Minister

Tests and interviews were also conducted for students in the fair

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed has said the government was making sincere efforts to overcome unemployment. He added efforts were under way to utilise the skills of the youth in the most efficient manner.

He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Industrial Open House and Career Fair 2019 at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Wednesday. The minister also told participants about different projects started by the government and said opportunities were being provided to the youth to get modern technical training. “Technical training will help the youth to start businesses level and to earn a livelihood for their families,” he said.

Speaking on this occasion, UET Vice Chancellor Dr Aziz Akbar said liaison between university and industry was vital and the varsity was playing its role by producing quality engineers for the country. The VC said it was necessary that the industry involve students in different industrial projects so that they could get a chance to exhibit their skills.

The event will continue till April 4 (Thursday) and more than 100 companies are participating in the event. More than 100 stalls have been set up and students have exhibited more than 420 projects in the fair. Different companies organised tests and interviews of students for on the spot induction.
