HYDERABAD: The appointment of a retired professor as Pro Vice-Chancellor of Sindh University’s Naushehro Feroze district campus has been challenged in Sindh High Court. The Hyderabad circuit bench has put the respondents on notice for April 22.

The petitioner, Dr Azhar Ali Shah, also prayed the court to restrain the Pro VC retired Prof Aslam Pervez Memon of Political Science department from joining the post. However, the court did not issue the stay.

According to the petitioner, Memon retired on October 15, 2018, and his six-month tenure at Khan Bahadur Syed Allahando Shah campus in Naushehro Feroze district concluded on January 30 this year. Subsequently, the SU VC assigned Dr Rafique Ahmed Memon the temporary responsibility of focal person the campus till the provincial government appointed the Pro VC.

However, on February 18 Memon was again appointed as the Pro VC for a long tenure of 4 years even though he had retired in October last year.
