PTTF president hits back at claims

KARACHI: The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) President Riaz Ahmed has hit back at the claims of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) officials  holding  him responsible for Pakistan missing its World Championship match against Guernsey.

“I don’t know why the PSB has prepared a charge sheet against me,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “I’ve attended all three meetings that were held in Moscow and I have photographic proof. In fact I went only to Moscow to participate in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) annual general meeting, the commonwealth table tennis meeting and the Asian Table Tennis conference.”

According to Ahmed, the match that Pakistan missed out on was down to the lack of communication on the organisers’ part as they failed to inform the team about the time-change in time.

“I have mails that the organisers had sent saying our match was at 7:30 but the players informed me that the walk-over was given around 4:30. To compensate for that, the ITTF gave us a bye over Turkmenistan the next day.”

According to players and officials from the team, the organisers had informed the management of the time change via post placed in their pigeon box that Ahmed failed to pick up.
