TAUNSA SHARIF: A man was gunned down by his cousins over a land dispute in Taunsa Sharif on Monday.

Reportedly, Zubair Ahmed, a resident of Basti Dhappa, had a dispute over possession of land with his cousins for the past several years. Both parties wanted to own the land but despite attempts, they could not reach an agreement.

On the day of the incident, Zubair was on his way for some work when his cousins intercepted him and sprayed him with bullets. As a result, he was killed on the spot. After carrying out the murder, the suspects fled the scene. The body was shifted to THQ Taunsa Sharif for autopsy.

The deceased’s family members lodged a protest against the killing and blocked Indus Highway for vehicular traffic. A massive traffic jam was witnessed on the thoroughfare and commuters remained stranded for hours.

Later, heavy contingent of police reached the spot and held negotiations with the protesters. The police officials assured them that the murderers will be arrested soon. After assurances, the victim’s family ended the protest and dispersed peacefully.

Earlier, a man was shot dead over an enmity within the Saddar police station precincts in Faisalabad.

Muhammad Saleem, a resident of Sir Syed Town, was riding a motorcycle along with his wife when four unidentified armed suspects intercepted them.

The accused took Saleem a few metres away from the roadside and allegedly opened fire on him. As a result, the victim suffered a bullet injury to the head. He was rushed to Civil Hospital for treatment but could not survive.
