Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has said that being a three-time prime minister of the country, Nawaz Sharif deserved best medical care as his heart condition reportedly worsens at Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore.

Taking to micro-blogging website Twitter on Friday, Maryam made an appeal to the authorities concerned to establish an “immediate resuscitation and lifesaving unit on jail premises” for her ailing father.

“Being a three-time prime minister and leader of the biggest political party and of millions of people, this is the least he deserves,” she added.

The statement comes hours after Sharif’s personal physician Dr Adnan examined the former at the Lahore prison. He also supplied medicines to the former premier, Express News reported.

Dr Adnan stressed upon the need of an immediate medical treatment for Sharif’s cardiac disease. He stated the cardiologists believe the former prime minister’s disease had worsened and he required hospitalisation for cardiac catheritisation and possible intervention.

The Sharif family has been trying to convince the former premier to shift to the hospital for cardiac treatment over the past few weeks but Nawaz is refusing to do so citing the inhumane attitude of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

He, during a meeting with his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, said that he would prefer an “honourable death” instead of allowing the government to exploit his medical condition for “petty gain”.

Provide best medical treatment to Nawaz Sharif, PM Imran directs Punjab govt

Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, in a tweet, said that PM Imran had directed the provincial government to implement all the recommendations of the medical board formed to examine the health of top PML-N leader.

An accountability court sentenced three-time prime minister to seven years imprisonment in Al-Azizia reference in December last year.
