RAHIM YAR KHAN:

A woman was allegedly abducted by her relatives for marrying of her own will in Rajanpur Kalan, Express News reported.

Investigation Officer Muhammad Amjad said that five months ago, Rukhsana Bibi had a court marriage with Muhammad Yunus against the will of her family members.

He added that Yunus worked in Saudi Arabia and came to Pakistan on leave. He maintained that after a few weeks of the marriage, he went back to Saudi Arabia, leaving Rukhsana Bibi alone.

The official mentioned that the woman’s family members were not happy with the union. Amjad revealed that in a bid to take revenge for the disgrace that she brought to them, more than a dozen armed accused, including the woman’s relatives Azeem Bakhsh, Afzal, Akhtar Hussain, Shakeel and others attacked her house and damaged property and furniture.

He highlighted that the accused also resorted to aerial firing that created panic in the area. The investigation officer pointed out that later, the suspects also abducted the woman.

Meanwhile, people from the neighbourhood told Express News that they called the police but Kot Samabah police failed to respond and reach the spot on time. They said that the culprits created panic in the area by resorting to aerial firing and kidnapped the woman without fear.

Residents demanded Bahawalpur RPO Imran Mehmood and Rahim Yar Khan DPO Umar Farooq take action against the suspects and award them strict punishment.

When contacted, the victim’s relatives denied such allegations. Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused and further probe is under way.
