LAHORE:
The Sharif family has once again failed to convince former premier to shift to the hospital for cardiac treatment from Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The Sharif family including Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother Shehbaz Sharif, his mother Begum Shamim, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, his grandson Junaid Safdar, his nephew Hamza Shehbaz and other members of the family met with the former premier in Kot Lakhpat jail on Thursday.

The family tried to convince him to shift to the hospital for cardiac treatment but Nawaz has again refused to do so citing the inhumane attitude of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Nawaz’s personal physician Dr Adnan who accompanied the family at Kotlakhpat jail, after a delegation led by the spokesperson to the CM Punjab Dr Shehbaz Gill, met with Nawaz Sharif tweeted that Dr Gill, Mr Mujibur Rehman Shami and two professors of Cardiology (PIC & KE) met the former PM in Kotlakhpat Jail. He stated the cardiologists believe the former prime minister’s disease has worsened and he requires hospitalisation for cardiac catheritisation and possible intervention.

He further tweeted Dr Gill acknowledged the severity of disease as reiterated by cardiologists & on behalf of government offered admission in the hospital which the former premier declined to keep his self-respect as most important and in view of treatment meted out to him in previous stays at the hospital.

Pakistan People Party’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also took a jibe at the government for mishandling Nawaz’s health issue. He tweeted, “Appalled to hear of the callous and inhumane treatment of imprisoned former PM Nawaz Sharif by the government. His illness should be treated seriously, be provided with proper medical care and treated with respect.”
