Zardari, Talpur get another extension in bail

Duplicates of the case's transference to Islamabad were provided to accused

KARACHI: A banking court extended on Tuesday the bail of former president Asif Ali Zardari till March 11 and accepted his exemption from hearing in the mega money laundering case. Bail of other accused in case was also extended.

Zardari did not appear before the court. His lawyer, Farooq H Naek, submitted his exemption request before the court. Naek said that Zardari was busy with the National Assembly session and could not come for the hearing. The court accepted his request.

Accused Faryal Talpur, Nimr Majeed, Zulqarnain Majeed and others appeared before the court. Banker Hussain Lawai and accused Abdul Ghani Majeed were presented before the court by jail authorities. Omni Group Chairperson Anwar Majeed did not appear, jail authorities submitted his medical certificate in court.

Court provided the accused duplicates of the orders to transfer the case to Islamabad. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had submitted NAB chairperson's approval of the case's transference from Karachi to Islamabad earlier. A junior lawyer observed that lawyer for accused Lowai, Shaukat Hayat, was on leave and the hearing should be adjourned. Lawyers for other accused requested to delay hearing till March 12 at which Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and NAB officials raised objections and asked for the hearing to be fixed for March 7. The court extended the bail of Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur and other accused and adjourned the hearing till March 11.
