NHA headquarters holds first video conference confab

Move to help implement austerity measures, control travelling expenditures, early decisions making

To make processes more efficient and to lower expenses, a video conference meeting between the National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Jawwad Rafique Malik and NHA’s Members Central Zone-Lahore, North Zone- Peshawar, South Zone-Karachi, West Zone-Quetta was held at the authority’s headquarters.

NHA’s members for planning, finance, engineering and coordination, Motorways-North, Burhan and Motorways-South, Lahore were also present in the video conference.

NHA Chief Malik termed the video conference an important step to ensure control over travelling expenditures of officers apart from saving on time.

Such video conferences, he said, would help take immediate decisions regarding construction and maintenance of motorways and national highways.

The video conferences will be held every week and shall be a regular feature in the future. In this regard, the agendas of the video conferences shall be conveyed to the concerned offices at least two days before the conference so that decisions regarding construction and maintenance affairs of motorways and highways can be taken well in time.

The NHA chief emphasized on beautifying and cleaning highways throughout the country. Moreover, he said that the public should be made aware of such activities through the media.

For this drive to move forward, he said that there was a need for public representatives, the business community, deputy commissioners, local administration, civil society and educational institutions to cooperate with the NHA. Further, he said that video conference will prepare the ground for timely completion of road building schemes across the country.

The conference call was initiated after Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed called for control expenditures and ensuring implementation of austerity measures.
