ISLAMABAD: A regular afternoon match of street cricket descended into chaos when a security supervisor, who tried to stop them, was beaten up by the ‘players’ who also allegedly resorted to heavy aerial firing.

Security Supervisor Saqib Mehmood said that some people were playing cricket in the middle of a street in Phase 7 of Ghouri Town. Their match, however, was badly disturbing the traffic on the road and posed a danger to themselves and motorists.

Hence, Mehmood said that he went over and asked them to stop playing in the middle of the road. This, however, triggered Chaudhry Imran and seven of his accomplices who beat Mehmood up. Meanwhile, another 15 armed men came to back up the eight men and started firing in the air causing fear and panic in the area.

Further, the suspects dragged him along the road and later shot him in the leg. The suspects did not stop there and continued to hit him in the head. He added that passersby and pedestrians called the police. However, he accused the police allegedly colluding with the suspects and allowed them to depart instead of arresting them.

Later, the police registered a case on Mehmood’s application but did not include any charges under the anti-terrorism law.

Mehmood was directed to undergo a medical to ascertain the extent and cause of his injuries. The report disclosed that Mehmood had suffered grievous wounds.

Two booked for allegedly abducting a girl

In another Incident, a case has been registered against the two suspects for allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl from the Soan Garden area.

The police, though, have yet to recover the abductee or arrest the suspects.

Muhammad Rizwan Butt submitted a written application to the police stating that his daughter had left for her school in Soan Garden as per routine two days ago but was then allegedly abducted by Abbas and Zafar.

Police registered after the incident went viral on social and mainstream media.
