CM seeks greater authority for govt hospitals

Kamal instructs amendment to financially empower medical superintendents

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has directed to amend rules to empower Medical Superintendents (MS) of provincial public sector hospitals financially, besides authorising them to spend their hospital's income on improving their hospitals’ facilities.

Chairing a meeting to review the performance of government hospitals, he directed the authorities to simplify the procedure of issuing grants to public sector hospitals and equip them with modern facilities.

He directed public sector hospitals to use the grant in a better way to enable them to meet present-day requirements, saying that the government would strictly monitor the performance of hospitals and issue grant on the basis of performance, said a press release issued here.

The chief minister directed the officials to improve the performance of health department to enable it to provide better treatment facilities to the public.

He appreciated the work of Quetta Children Hospital, saying that the hospital is playing a pivotal role in providing quality treatment to the children of city but there was a dire need to improve the performance of the hospital.

Jam Kamal said that the services of consultants and specialist doctors could be obtained from private sector to help provide better medical facilities besides making hospitals independent and self-sufficient.

Meanwhile, talking to Quetta Children Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Abdullah Jan Jaffar, the chief minister said the provincial government would enhance the financial grant of the hospital, besides providing modern surgical equipment including ultrasound, MRI, x-ray and other machines to ensure quality treatment facilities to the kids.

He asked the hospital management to take measures to increase income of hospital in order to make it self-sufficient.

He stressed devolving powers as concentration of power was the major cause of deterioration in performance of public sector hospitals.

The meeting approved issuing grant for activating laboratory in Fatima Jinnah Chest Hospital.
