RAWALPINDI: A protest by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has failed to achieve its intended goal of having the medical superintendent of the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital restored.

Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBH) Medical Superintendent Dr Tariq Niazi had been suspended by the Punjab government earlier this month after an audio of a call between him and Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat had gone viral in which the minister could be heard threatening Dr Naizi if he did not comply with his directives of transferring incarcerated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi’s daughter.

Members of the YDA and other staff of the hospital had termed Dr Niazi’s suspension and a probe into his alleged negligence political interference into the affairs of the hospital. The YDA launched a protest, blocking the Murree Road for multiple hours.
