PESHAWAR: Hundreds of people from across political spectrum gathered in different parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas on Sunday to protest India’s aggressive stance against Pakistan and warned the Indian premier that if India waged war on Pakistan, they will fight shoulder-to-shoulder with their security forces to protect the country.

One multi-party protest was held outside the press club in Khar Bazaar area of the Bajaur tribal district on Sunday. Representatives of various political parties put aside their differences and joined hands with trade unionists, businessmen, teachers and students as they condemned Indian aggression in the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir and raised slogans in favour of the Pakistani security forces. They held up placards and burned effigies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Addressing the protest rally, political leaders and notable tribal elders said that they are the ‘unpaid soldiers’ of the Pakistan military and will never hesitate to render any sacrifices to protect the motherland.

Another similar protest was staged in the lower and upper Chitral, where members of all political parties took part along with teachers and unionists of the district.

Speakers at the rally said that India should double-check its security parameters before waging a war with Pakistan since it was inviting devastation of its land and people.

“India desires war on the pretext of the Pulwama attack, but they should remember that their heinous designs will be met with failure because as citizens, we stand firmly behind our forces,” they said.

They added that Modi was using the Pulwama terror attack to gain a majority in the upcoming Indian general elections because he knows that their party is all but certain to face defeat for their poor performance. In Malakand and Kohat districts scores of protest rallies were held where effigies of the Indian prime minister were burned.  Protesters chanted slogans against the Indian prime minister and security forces and stated that Kashmir is the backbone of Pakistan and would never let it be occupied by Indian forces.

They said that Pakistan will continue diplomatically supporting the Kashmiri people and warned India not to mistake Pakistan’s offers for peace as a sign of weakness. They further said that the people and the military forces are always on the same page to protect the country.
