Pashto stage performer Gulalai ‘murdered’ by husband’s friends in Mardan

PESHAWAR/ MARDAN: A local Pashto stage performer was allegedly tortured and murdered by her husband's friends in Mardan district.

Authorities on Thursday recovered a woman’s body in the district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) which they identified as actress Lubna, alias Gulalai.

As per the details, after the dispute with her husband Muhammad Imran, who hails from Mardan, the actress along with her infant son moved to Peshawar to stay with her sister.

Of late, three friends of the actress’ husband – identified as Shah Hussain, Fazal Malik and Nawab – came to the sister’s residence and claimed that they were a Jirga members sent by Imran to resolve the dispute.

Upon their ‘assurance’, Gualalai agreed to reconcile with her husband and left for Mardan along with them.

Subsequently, when cellphones of Gulalai and the Jirga members turned silent that alerted the victim’s family to inform the police.

The victim's family accused Hussain, Malik and Nawab for committing the murder and lodged a first information report (FIR) against them.

Police said that initial investigations suggested that the three friends murdered the actress and then dumped the body in a field.



The husband is still at large following the incident.

However, two accused, Hussain and Malik, have been taken into custody, according to DPO Mardan. Efforts are underway to arrest the third accused, he added.

The artist fraternity in Mardan condemned the brutal murder and urged the authorities to take the culprits to task.
