Couple slaughtered in their sleep

DSP says victims were either murdered by their relatives over honour or killed over an old enmity

KABIRWALA: A couple was found slaughtered on Tuesday in Kabirwala under mysterious circumstances.

DSP Meher Muhammad Waseem said that the slaughtered bodies of 34-year-old Siddiq Irshad and his wife Fakhra were found from their house in Basti Asimabad.

He added the couple was slaughtered with a sharp weapon. He revealed the victims had four children who were sleeping at the time of the incident, but the murderers did not harm them.

Waseem revealed that after conducting initial investigations, it emerged that this was not a case of robbery as the accused did not steal anything from the house.

The official believed that the victims were either murdered by their relatives over honour or they were killed over an old enmity. However, he said that the exact motive would be disclosed after a detailed investigation and an autopsy report.

The DSP mentioned that the bodies were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital for legal formalities. A case had been registered against unidentified suspects. Further probe was under way.

Earlier, an elderly woman and her son were slaughtered with a sharp weapon in Quaid-i-Azam Industrial Estate Police area in Lahore.

According to details, Dr Adeeba Farooq, 70, along with her son Umar Farooq, 45 and grandchild Nehal 17, were living in a house in Township area. On the day of the incident, a suspect entered into their house, slit the throats of the victims with a knife and fled. However, Nehal remained unhurt as he was asleep in another room.
