LWMC all set for zero waste operation

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Managing Director Khalid Nazir directed officials to conduct a zero-waste operation in the city on every Friday until March 29.

This zero waste operation will make extraordinary arrangements and conduct cleanliness operations in narrow streets, open plots, markets and other important places of the city. The drive will not just stick to manual sweeping, but also conduct mechanical sweeping and washing will be a part of it.

The managing director ordered the seniors of Turkish waste management companies to ensure that all their resources are utilised in the field without any delay. He advised a zero tolerance policy against indolent employees and against anyone involved in the illegal dumping of waste in the city. Performing workers or officers will be handed appreciation certificates.

He added that level of cleanliness services would be equal around the city without any discrimination. He asked the LWMC enforcement department to evolve a new plan to deal with all those violating solid waste management laws in the city.

The MD stated the department cannot maintain cleanliness that without cooperation of public. He added that if citizens pay attention to their basic civil and social responsibility on the proper disposal of solid waste in provided bins, the city of gardens can shine again.

 

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has started work to light up Haveli Mai Jinda, Makatib Khana and the periphery of Deewan-e-Aam.

The project will be completed by mid-March at a cost of Rs1.8 million. Once finished, these freshly-illuminated sites will be added to the History by Night Tours.

Previously, the Huzoori Bagh Baradari, Alamgiri Gate, Roshnai Gate, Summer Palace, Musaman Gate, Picture Wall of Lahore Fort, entrance of Badshahi Mosque, tomb of Allama Iqbal and the dome of the Samadhi of Ranjeet Singh had been illuminated.

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari said this process was being undertaken for the first time in history to attract tourists and extend the night tour. ‘‘The previously illuminated sites at Lahore Fort have been appreciated and enjoyed by tourists. We plan to illuminate the whole of Lahore Fort very soon.”
