Kamran Michael sent to jail on remand

KARACHI: An accountability court sent on Tuesday former ports and shipping minister and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Kamran Michael, to jail on judicial remand for allegedly abusing his authority to illegally allot plots of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) land.

The counsel for Michael, Advocate Syed Mukhtiar Hussain Sheerazi, and NAB's prosecutor appeared before the court. The IO requested a 14-day physical remand. Michael's counsel argued that since the reference had been filed, the remand cannot be granted. He said that his client should be sent to jail on judicial remand. The court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.

According to NAB, the accused has to be interrogated about the illegal allotment of land worth Rs1.5 billion in KPT Cooperative Housing Society in Mai Kolachi.
