Number of road accidents surge in Lahore

75% of accidents involved motorcycles

LAHORE: At least six people died, while 923 were injured in 824 road traffic crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Out of the injured, 531 suffered severe injuries and were shifted to different hospitals. Meanwhile, 386 injured minors were treated on the site of the incident by rescue medical teams.

The majority (75%) involved motorcycles. Further analysis showed that 382 drivers, 25 underage drivers, 161 pedestrians and 380 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 223 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 230 people. Next was Faisalabad with 81 accidents and 98 victims, followed by Multan with 57 RTCs and 58 victims.

As many as 923 victims were affected by road traffic crashes, including 729 males and 194 females, while the age group of the victims showed that 129 were under 18 year of age, 476 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 318 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age. According to the data, 618 motorcycles, 128 rickshaws, 95 cars, 45 vans, nine buses, 32 trucks and 102 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the road traffic accidents.
