RAWALPINDI:

A young man shot and critically injured himself after a girl turned down his marriage proposal, police reported on Saturday.

The distraught suitor, identified as Tayyab, was shifted to a local hospital where medics listed him in a critical condition. Police have registered an attempted suicide case against him.

Zafarullah, a friend and co-worker, told police that Tayyab loved an office colleague for a long time.

Domestic dispute: Man commits suicide

On February 1, Tayyab proposed to her at their office, said Zafarullah, adding that the girl, however, turned him down and in desperation he took out his gun and shot himself in the stomach.

Violence over matrimonial disputes is common in Pakistan. On Thursday, a 40-year-old man, identified as Shahid Mangi, was allegedly shot dead in Hyderabad over a marital dispute.

The murder took place in an apartment building in Gulistan-e-Sajjad neighbourhood in the limits of Bhitai Nagar police station.
The victim, as well as his killer, belonged to Larkana.
