PML-N worker shot dead during robbery bid

A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) worker was allegedly gunned down during a robbery bid in Faisalabad, Express News reported on Thursday.

A Samanabad police station official said that three robbers barged into a general store owned by Zahid Hussain in Peoples Town. He added the outlaws looted cash Rs35,000 and mobile phone from the shopkeeper.

The official maintained that in the meantime, Zahid shouted for help. After hearing his screams, 40-year-old Shafaqat Ali, who was present in a real estate shop a few meters away, ran to confront the robbers, he mentioned.

He highlighted that when Shafaqat reached the shop the culprits opened fire on him and fled the scene in a rickshaw.

He said the victim suffered multiple bullet injuries and was shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment. However, he could not survive due to excess bleeding. The body was handed over to heirs of the deceased after completing legal formalities.

The police have registered a case against the accused robbers and started investigations.

Meanwhile, the police said that the victim was a social activist and an active worker of PML-N. He leaves behind a widow and two children to mourn his death.

Earlier, a man was gunned down by armed bandits during a robbery attempt in Faisalabad.

According to details, Amjad Farooq, a resident of Chak No 356-GB, and his friend Muhammad Ashfaq were on their way to work when four armed bandits intercepted them near Chak No 54-JB and tried to snatch money and other valuables. When Amjad showed resistance, the outlaws opened fire on them. As a result, Amjad Farooq died on the spot while his friend sustained bullet injuries.
