A National Assembly panel on Wednesday directed the ICT administration to expedite provision of promised plots to members of National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NAECHS). The employees were refused plots due to alleged corruption in the housing society.
National Assembly Standing Committee on House and Library chairperson Faisal Karim Kundi directed NAECHS to accommodate the employees in joint ventures with other housing societies.
The chairperson told the society to expedite efforts and make appropriate arrangements with other adjacent housing societies to provide plots to the aggrieved employees, who became victims of corruption in the society.
He asked the National Assembly to actively pursue the case in court so that appropriate action can be taken against those involved in the misappropriation of the accounts of NAECHS. He also directed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to keep in view the interest of employees of NA while finalizing negotiations with the adjacent society for joint venture.
The committee also directed Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ali Ahmed, the acting administrator of NAECHS, to elect a regular administrator at the earliest. The deputy commissioner later apprised the committee about the terms and condition of the joint venture.
It was also decided during the meeting that NA House and Library Committee will supervise affairs of NAECHS, for which a sub-committee will be constituted.
A sub-committee of the NA Standing Committee on House and Library, headed by MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram, had found huge irregularities in the NAECHS, allegedly fostered through connivance of some of the housing society’s officials with ICT administration employees.
The sub-committee identified the responsible employees, including Islamabad deputy commissioner and two deputy secretaries of the senate, and demanded their deposition. The identified officials later acquired a stay order against their deposition from Islamabad High Court.
The committee was also informed that NA is seeking vacation of the stay order acquired by the officials found involved in the corruption case.
Members of National Assembly that attended the meeting on Wednesday include Belum Hasnain, Liaqat Ali Khan, Saira Afzal Tarar, Anjum Aqeel Khan, Shagufta Sadiq, along with Minister of State Sheikh Waqas Akram.
