12 lady doctors fired for absenteeism

Health department also takes action against two consultants

QUETTA: The provincial health department on Wednesday sacked 12 lady doctors and two consultants and suspended one nurse of the gynaecology department of Civil Hospital Quetta for being absent and showing negligence in performing their duties.

Taking action over patients’ complaint, Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Mohmmad Saleem Abro visited the hospital.

“The sacked and suspended staff was not fulfilling their duties and the patients were suffering in the gynaecology department,” said Dr Abro.

The MS has instructed the staff to report to the health secretary on immediate basis.

Sandeman Civil Hospital is the only major hospital in Balochistan that has been providing health facilities to the people of entire province.

He said Civil Hospital is situated in the city centre and people from far-flung areas of Balochistan come to this health facility for treatment. Hospital administration and medical staff are equally responsible for providing basic amenities to patients in the hospital.

He also went to different wards of the hospital and inquired after the health of the patients and asked about medical assistance being provided to them.

Last year, Chief Minister Jam Kamal and his cabinet declared health emergency in Balochistan while on many occasions the CM and Health Minister Mir Naseebullah Marri have expressed zero tolerance for absenteeism of doctors and health staff.
