Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak, who chaired the meeting, said that the sub-committee formed to finalise ToRs submitted its report. The committee, comprising members of government and opposition, could not agree on the ToRs.
Khattak also presented rules for working of the committee. PPP Senators Rehman Malik and Naveed Qamar said appropriate time should be given to the members for studying the rules of the committee.
MNA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suggested that the committee should work under National Assembly rules till the approval of the committee’s rules. The suggestion was supported by Syed Khursheed Shah and Rana Tanveer.
The committee also took up the issue of Azhar Sadeeq advocate’s petition pertaining to the constitution of the committee. The chair said the committee hadn’t received anything in writing about the issue. Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said the petition was addressed to the Senate chairman.

Opposition parties had raised the issue of the parliamentary committee’s lack of activity in the lower house last week. PPP’s Khursheed Shah had raised the issue of lack of meetings of the committee, which was constituted on October 15, 2018.
Under the agreed formula, the committee has equal representation from the government and the opposition sides and with its head nominated by the prime minister.
The parliamentary committee formed to investigate allegations of rigging in the 2018 general elections on Wednesday decided to have consultation on its Terms of Reference (ToRs) in the next meeting on January 30.
