LAHORE: A day after reports emerged that Nawaz Sharif is unwell; the former prime minister has been shifted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in the walled city on Tuesday amid strict security.

Maryam says ‘Nawaz is unwell’ in Kot Lakhpat jail

In a tweet on Monday, daughter of the former premier Maryam Nawaz had informed that her father, who remains incarcerated at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Prison, was unwell but the family was being kept in the dark about his medical condition.

“I have been told that MNS [Mian Nawaz Sharif] is unwell and is being taken to Punjab Institute of Cardiology tomorrow [Tuesday] but myself or the family has no knowledge of it.”

Her statement came two days after she criticised the authorities for not releasing medical reports of her father.

“We still haven’t received the reports given by the medical boards,” she said and added, “After pleading with the jail authorities, we have also written to the Home Department,” Maryam Nawaz tweeted on Monday.

Authorities not letting cardiologists examine Nawaz, claims Maryam

Nawaz was earlier advised to get additional tests done by his personal doctor in a bid to ascertain reasons for the chest pain he has been going through.

The ousted premier has been behind the bars in Kot Lakhpat Prison since December 24, 2018, after an accountability court convicted him in a corruption reference filed in line with the apex court’s July 28, 2017 verdict.
