Temperatures drop as rain lashes Karachi

Various areas report power outages, up to 38mm rain recorded in metropolis

KARACHI: Temperatures in the metropolis dropped on Monday morning after the city received its second spell of rainfall during the current winter season as a new westerly weather system entered the country over the weekend.

Various parts of Karachi received intermittent heavy showers coupled with thunder and lightning on Sunday night, bringing the temperature down in the city.

As a result of the rainfall, many areas of the city faced power outages and motorists faced difficulties after various roads were inundated with rainwater.

Rain and snowfall end dry spell in Balochistan

The city's Gulistan-e-Johar area received the 38mm of rain, Landhi with 31mm, Jinnah International Airport area received 15mm, Shahrah-e-Faisal and Mauripur areas 12mm, Gulshan-e-Hadid and Nazimabad 10mm and North Karachi recorded 6.5-mm of rain.

Rain, thunder expected in Karachi

Pakistan's Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted light showers for Karachi on Saturday. The department said light rain will further decrease the city’s temperature, intensifying the already cold weather which will remain as such for a few days according to the forecast.
