Officials involved in the Sahiwal incident will be punished, said Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Sunday. He expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting reviewing the progress of the incident where four people in Sahiwal were killed by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) during an ‘encounter’.
The chief minister said a joint investigation team has been formed to conduct an impartial inquiry into the incident and a case has been registered against the culprits. He maintained that strict action would be taken against the culprits.
“The children of the victims are now the responsibility of the state. Prime Minister Imran Khan will be given a report in the next 72 hours. Senior officials including Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharrat, the Punjab Police Inspector General Amjad Javed Saleemi and other officials were also present during the meeting.
Late Saturday night, the chief minister visited Sahiwal District Hospital where he inquired about the health of the injured children and presented flowers to them. He was accompanied by the Punjab police IG. He ordered the hospital to provide the children with medical facilities. Buzdar stated that he will personally monitor the inquiry and the injured children will be looked after by the government.
Punjab Police Inspector General Amjad Javed Saleemi said that every single aspect of the incident is being investigated. The truth will be revealed after investigations are completed. If found responsible, the CTD officials would be punished, he said.
