LAHORE: An initial post-mortem report of four people killed in an alleged encounter by the Punjab’s counterterrorism police on Saturday has been released, Express News reported.

According to the report, driver Zeeshan sustained 10 bullets, 13-year-old Areeba received six bullets while her mother Nabeela Bibi got four bullets and her father Mohammad Khalil sustained 13 bullets as a result of firing carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel.

One of the children named Umair received a bullet in his right leg, while Muneeba injured her hand after the glass of the car shattered.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has also been formed by the provincial government to investigate the incident.

Protests have broken out over the Sahiwal tragedy on Ferozepur road in Lahore.

Protesters blocked the road from both sides for traffic. They took to the streets to protest against the killing of four people – including two women – in a shady encounter involving CTD personnel on a highway in the Qadirabad area of Sahiwal district on Saturday noon.

The police first identified the victims as “kidnappers” and then as “terrorists of a proscribed group”, raising doubts over the “encounter”.

The CTD officials claimed in a statement that the law enforcers signalled a Suzuki Alto car and a motorcycle to stop near Sahiwal Toll Plaza on GT Road, but they did not pull over and instead opened fire.

The police retaliated and four people, including two women, were killed by the “firing of their own accomplices” in the ensuing firefight by, according to the CTD.

The victims have been identified as Muhammad Khalil, his wife Nabeela, 13-year-old daughter Areeba and a neighbour.

Shady encounter leaves three of a family dead

All three children injured in the Sahiwal CTD encounter were moved to Lahore, where they were given medical aid at the General hospital.
According to a new video that has emerged, the CTD officials forcefully stopped the car after crashing into the vehicle.

The three children were removed from the vehicle first, after which CTD officials opened fire at the vehicle.

The CTD officials opened fire at the car from a very close range, while Zeeshan and Muhammad Khalil did not engage in firing at the CTD officials.

Taking notice of the issue, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar ordered the arrest of the CTD officials involved in the Sahiwal incident.

“The CTD officials involved in the alleged extra-judicial killing of a family have been taken into custody on the orders of the chief minister,” said Punjab CM’s spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill.

The Punjab CM rejected the CTD report on the Sahiwal tragedy in which the victims were labelled as terrorists.

Buzdar has sought a complete report of the incident from the Punjab inspector general of police.
