LAHORE: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Asim Hussain and textile millers will meet today (Wednesday) to discuss the reduction in gas supply to the industries.

According to a spokesman for the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), the industry is demanding uninterrupted supply of gas for five days a week against current supply for four days. He said the shortage of gas had reduced production of textile industry by 43 per cent, hampering its potential to produce surplus products for export. He said the textile industry was all set to achieve $14 billion worth of exports this year and had the potential to reach $20 billion next year provided issues pertaining to energy security were timely addressed by the government. He said the textile industry was ready to invest $1 billion per annum to produce further exportable surplus.
