A police constable was shot dead on Monday night by unknown gunmen on Islamabad Expressway near Sohan colony. He was laid to rest in his native town of Mardan on Tuesday. Police said the motive behind the murder was not clear as the policeman had no known enemies.
Constable Shaukat Usman was going back home after his duty at President House. As soon as he got near Madrassa Khalid bin Waleed, a religious seminary, two unknown gunmen opened fire at him.
Usman, shot in his lower abdomen five times, died on the spot because of excessive bleeding, police said. His body was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science for post mortem, after which it was handed over to his family.
Usman was living with his family in Sohan Town near Islamabad Expressway. His father, Fazl-e-Rabbi, also a retired police inspector, told the police neither his family nor his son had enmity with anyone. However, police suspect it was a case of personal enmity, from the way he was shot.
