The Lahore High Court on Tuesday extended a stay order against the recovery of special excise duty from three sugar mills owned by the Sharif family and granted fresh stay orders to three more mills and other manufacturers.
At the last hearing, the court had restrained the Federal Board of Revenue from collecting the duty from Ittefaq Brothers and Ramazan Sugar Mills. Several other sugar mills, including Kohinoor and National Sugar Mills, also filed appeals against the levy of special excise duty and the bench allowed them the same relief.
The bench had told the federal government to file a reply, but a deputy attorney general on Tuesday sought more time. The hearing was adjourned till June 27.
