Former US ambassador Munter discusses US ties with Imran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan strongly advocates a political solution for the conflict in Afghanistan as it is the only way to tackle the regional crisis.

The prime minister expressed the thought while discussing Pak-US relations with former US ambassador Cameroon Munter at the PM Office on Tuesday. The prime minister said that peace and security within the region were crucial to ensure practical implementation of the government’s agenda.

While welcoming the former US ambassador, who served in Pakistan from 2010-12, the prime minister vowed to ensure strong relations with United States based on mutual benefit and confidence. The prime minister informed Munter of the government’s priorities to bring meaningful changes in the lives of Pakistanis through equitable distribution of resources and a balanced approach to social and economic development.

During the meeting, the former US ambassador reflected on the time he spent while serving as the ambassador for Pakistan, calling it a notable experience. Munter informed the premier that he now serves as president of a renowned think thank, the East West Institute, where he also supports strong relationship between Pakistan and the US.
