Aleem terms bilateral ties key to success

Minister says practical steps will be taken to provide maximum facilities to young generation

LAHORE: Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said it was the need of the 21st century that relationship with neighbouring countries be promoted on bilateral basis and peace and prosperity should be the priority for the next generation.

The minister expressed these views while speaking at Gaddafi Stadium on the eve of Kabadi Takra final match where he attended as the chief guest.

“No country can afford a war and poverty for their masses and Prime Minister Imran Khan had made it clear to India that how long-term relations can be promoted between both countries being realistic with the confronting issues,” he said.

Minister Sports Rai Taimur Bhatti welcomed Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and introduced both the kabaddi teams. Aleem said apart from cricket and kabaddi all the sports should be played with neighbouring countries and especially Pakistani people were always enthusiastic to compete with India.

“Pakistan, especially the Punjab Sports Department has taken a big initiative to hold three-country Kabadi Takra and now this practice should be carried on,” he remarked. Aleem said kabaddi was the traditional sports of the region and the people of Punjab have a great interest in it. “Lahories have fully participated to see this match and they once again proved their deep interest in competitions with India.”

The minister said the government has taken a number of initiatives for the promotion of sports and especially in Punjab, sports have been included in the 100-day agenda of the provincial government. He indicated that practical steps would be taken in the coming years for the providing maximum facilities to the young generation in all the districts of Punjab so that more and more potential could be brought forwarded and a new generation could perform at national and international level. “In all main sports Pakistani stars always brought good name for Pakistan.”

On this occasion, citizens of Lahore expressed enthusiasm and a large number of people were present in the stadium. Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and the members of Punjab Assembly were also present on the occasion. Abdul Aleem Khan congratulated Pakistani kabaddi team on winning the competition.
