CJP wants Tiffi Butt case wrapped up in two months

A two-member bench of the Supreme Court continued to hear a case filed by a woman against Tiffi Butt, claiming the latter had taken possession of her property. During proceeds, CJP Mian Saqib Nisar, who was heading the two-member bench, told Butt that “you do not seem like a wicked person”

The CJP ordered a civil court to decide the matter in two months. He added that the property would be sealed until the final decision of the lower court. As proceedings commenced, the CJP reprimanded Butt over the failure of his “henchmen” to cooperate with police officials. SP City Maaz Muhammad Zafar informed the court that Aslam Majeed, Abdul Waheed and advocate Ikram Mehmood were Tiffi Butt’s men who threatened officials in the office of the settlements deputy secretary.

These warned of dire consequences if the records of the property were not handed over. Maaz claimed the mentioned people said the CJP was going to retire on January 17 and the suo moto case would come to an end.

“Is this your way to respect the Supreme Court?” the CJP asked Tiffi Butt. The latter replied by saying that he had utmost respect for the courts and that these individuals were not his henchman. The CJP then asked specifically asked the officials in this manner. Maaz pointed to one Aslam Majeed who was present in the courtroom. CJP Nisar ordered Maaz to arrest him and others before starting legal proceeding. The courts cannot seem frail, the CJP remarked, adding that he wanted to strengthen the justice so that every financially-disadvantaged person could receive justice.

Petitioner Humaira Khawar told the court that these henchmen were posing threats to her family. She claimed to have recordings of the phone conversations. Tiffi Butt then requested the court to hear the recording and decide whether he made any threat.

At one stage, the CJP told Tiffi Butt that he had only heard of his name before and never seen him.” “I can assess the nature of people by their look and you don’t seem to be a wicked person,” he said.

Tiffi’s counsel told the court that the petitioner had a pending of occupation against his client in a civil court. The CJP lashed out at the counsel, saying the lawyer was only pursuing the case to the extent of his convenience.

The CJP asked for a show of hands over who was willing to join him and make the system more viable and stronger. Officials, lawyers and Butt, himself, raised their hands and assured the CJP of their solidarity. .As Aslam Majeed and Abdul Waheed left the courtroom, the police concerned arrested both men.
