Victim’s father demands stern action against his son

BAHAWALPUR: A girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her brother in Bahawalpur on Friday.

A police official of Baghdadul Jadeed police station told The Express Tribune that A*, a resident of Chak No 12/BC, submitted a complaint. He stated that his 26-year-old son G* allegedly raped his 17-year-old sister Y* while she was alone in the house.

He added that the accused allegedly tried to sexually abuse her again after some time but she managed to escape from the spot.

A* stated that Y* told him about the incident and he later confronted G*, who confessed to the crime.

The victim’s father said he wanted the police to arrest his son despite the latter asking forgiveness for his shameful act. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the accused and started investigations.

Earlier, a woman was abducted and raped in Faisalabad.

Police said that the victim R*, a resident of Railway Colony Mohallah, Nishatabad, lodged a complaint in which she stated that Muhammad Shafique was a friend of her husband. She added that the accused used to visit their home and promised that he would arrange a job for her in a factory.

The victim narrated that on the day of the incident, Shafique called her and said that they had to go to the factory to meet someone for the job. The woman maintained that she reached Lorry Ada where the accused was waiting for her on a motorcycle.

She said the culprit took her to a house where he and his accomplices Muhammad Sarwar, Muhammad Muneer and an unidentified man gang-raped her.

In recent months, cases of sexual abuse have been on the rise across Punjab. Despite these incidents occurring on a daily basis, the government’s counter measures have been largely disappointing.

Most cases have been reported from Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala and other parts of the province. The victims include women and minor girls or boys.
