The Lahore High Court has fixed January 7 for final arguments on a petition challenging the suspension order of Pakistan Railway Director General Legal Affairs Tahir Pervez. Justice Atir Mahmood commenced proceedings on the petition, but the counsel for the petitioner was not present in court. However, the federal government and Pakistan Railways lawyer submitted their replies. The Pakistan Railways counsel told the court that Pervez was suspended following rules and procedures and there was nothing illegal about his suspension. The counsel further contended that the country’s top court had also ordered that the matter be decided with a week. He pointed out that a required timeframe of one month was given to Pervez after the issuance of notices. The rules allow them to suspend someone on substantial grounds by adopting legal procedures. He requested the court that the application filed by Pervez against his suspension be dismissed.
