Hundreds of villagers, including children, staged a protest demonstration in front the City District Government Complex, Zaila Council Chowk against local police. Locals blamed the police for not recovering a 7-year-old girl who was recently abducted.
The girl’s family said that several landlords in the area were responsible for the kidnapping and had openly made threats in this regard. “The police are unwilling to stand up to them,” said Noor Bibi’s (7) father Altaf. The demonstrators burnt old tyers and blocked traffic for several hours.
They chanted slogans against the police and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the kidnapping of Noor Bibi.
They said that the girl was abducted by Muhammad Azam and his accomplices nearly 8 months ago from Chak No.43-GB. “She was taken because of a property dispute that we are contesting in court,” Altaf said.
Police registered an FIR No.403/2010 against the accused involved in the incident of kidnapping but did not attempt to arrest him.
The capital police officer (CPO) assured the protesters that the matter would be resolved as soon as possible and that the accused would be arrested. He said that police had taken the accused in for questioning.
