Jansher unimpressed with wins at Penang

Head coach wants Pakistan to win world titles.

Pakistan’s young brigade claimed three titles at the Penang International Junior Squash Championship in Malaysia last week but former world champion and head coach Jansher Khan is unimpressed with the players’ progress.

Ali Bukhari clinched the under-19 title by beating a local player in the final while Aamad Fareed defeated a Jordanian opponent to end as winner in the under-17 category. Asim Khan captured the under-15 title by overcoming Israr Ahmed in the all-Pakistan final.

Jansher, who took over as the Pakistan Squash Federation’s (PSF) head coach in January was not satisfied just as yet.

“It’s not a huge boost,” said Jansher. “I don’t see it as a positive development in our bid to retain lost glory.

“Overall I’m not satisfied as we even failed to win the Asian Championship titles which we once used to take for granted.”

Jansher felt players should concentrate on major events including senior championships to improve their world rankings.

“Participation in small tournaments is of little use. We should focus on major events. Our junior players should also play in seniors’ event like we did to polish our game.”

Jansher said that he would only be impressed once Pakistan clinch the World Junior Championship.

Lack of progress inexplicable

Jansher believed that the PSF was providing the players with the best facilities but they were not utilising them fully.

“We’re giving them the best facilities. We have three former world champions to coach them. Players are being sponsored for international events, but we haven’t got the desired result from them.”

sadia | 12 years ago | Reply jansher should not give negative remarks against our national hero's' PSF should take action against him on giving these kind of statements' Aamir Atlas Khan is our national hero and he gave alot of name to Pakistan squash and still he is progressing' so PSF should support him instead of jansher khan because jansher is our past and Aamir is our future and present too" PSF think about it' you still have a time to keep jansher away from PSF to bring back our lost glory to Pakistan'

Rehan | 12 years ago | Reply Jansher was a great player of his time. But he is the wrong choice to achieve what PSF wants to achieve that is the past glory. It is very simple for him to blame everything on the lack of commitment from the players. But when have you met a teenager who wants to do exactly what ask of him :) Young people need guidance and needs to be motivated. You need to take the small wins and build confidence on it. The person in my opinion who is capable of getting Pakistani players back in the top 10 is Rehmat Khan. And for some reason PSF can't come to this conclusion. If he is asking for more money then give it to him. He gets the results and does not spend most of his time on calling press conferences and making empty speeches. The problem is PSF is run by volunteers. That may sound great that we don't have to pay them, but the problem is, it is a secondary job for them. They have more important matters, such as defending the country to take care of. The key problem is, no matter how PSF performs the key position holders in the organisation are not affected. You become the president of the federation just because you are the Air Chief Marshal of PAF. I bet its not easy and the person doing the job has earned this position but that does not make him fit to run a sports federation. For a well run organisation there has to be a set of key performance indicators for every position in the company. People should be evaluated on regular basis(quarterly/yearly) against these KPIs. If you don't perform as expected you gotta go and someone more suitable needs to replace you. If you have read all my rant, then thank you
