The Lahore High Court (LHC) instructed fuel stations on Thursday to not provide petrol to motorcycle riders not wearing helmets, reported Express News.

The court also warned fuel stations of closure if they provide petrol to such commuters.

Earlier, the provincial capital's traffic police had restricted provision of petrol to motorcycle riders not wearing helmets.

Helmet compulsory for bikers from tomorrow

Provision of fuel to non-helmet wearing riders is also barred in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lower Dir and Quetta.

In December, the LHC ordered motorcycle sellers to provide free helmets with new motorcycles. The court also sought further suggestions to make motorcycle riding safe in the city.

During the hearing, Justice had ordered that a motorcycle without a helmet should not be sold.

“Steps should be taken to make motorcycle ride safe, he said. The CJ added that even changes to the manufacturing of the motorcycles can be made if need be. On the request of Advocate Azhar Siddiqui, the court directed officials to take measures within 15 days.
