CM Kamal tells Muslim Hands govt committed to social sector uplift

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal has said the provincial government is taking measures for the social development of the province to make sure facilities of education, health and irrigation are available to the people.

Talking to a delegation of Muslim Hands, an international charity, on Friday, the chief minister said the government of Balochistan will welcome donor agencies’ assistance in the social uplift of people. With the proper functioning of this sector, basic facilities of health and education can be ensured, he added.

Kamal also briefed the team about the relief operations being carried out in drought-hit areas of the province. He said that the government has announced a special package of Rs500 million.

Research-oriented curriculum stressed in Balochistan

Muslim Hands Director Irfan Khan informed the CM his organisation has been working in the fields of education, health and water in Balochistan. Under this venture, schools and dispensaries were being set up in many districts, he added.

The chief minister lauded the social welfare services and welcomed the organisation’s support in the drought-stricken regions of the province.

The delegation informed the chief minister that Muslim Hands has been planning to arrange international donors’ seminar to receive donations in view of the latest crisis in the province.

The other day the chief minister chaired a meeting of Balochistan Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (BPPRA) and reviewed annual performance of the department and official tender procedure.

Provincial Minister Nawabzada Tariq Magsi and Finance Minister Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani were present on the occasion where BPPRA Managing Director Tariq Nosherwani briefed about the authority’s affairs.

He said under Article 9 of the Constitution, Balochistan Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (BPPRA), 2009 Act was in force in Balochistan, making sure transparency in purchase of construction machinery and release of tenders to contractors.

During the meeting, it was decided that the department would complete the procedure of announcing and releasing tenders and work order in 30 days to avoid unnecessary delays in construction work.

The authority approved amendments in delegation of financial powers announcing XEN powers’ up to Rs100 million. Upon this, the CM directed the managing director of BPPRA to submit summary for amendment on immediate basis.

Moreover, at a prize distribution ceremony in a sports event CM Kamal announced a job quota for sportsmen who bring laurels to the province at national and international level.

Kamal said: “Our province is full of talented sportsmen who not only on national but international level lighted Balochistan’s name but unfortunately like other departments former regimes didn’t pay adequate attention towards sports”.

The government has been taking effective measures for revival of sports, he added.

He promised to the sportsmen that the government would provide them all necessary sports goods and give them training opportunities. The CM directed sports secretary to distribute mats in all martial arts academies in Balochistan.
