Talking to reporters during a visit to Nushki district, Home Minister Mir Saleem Khosa said the lingering drought has destroyed the agriculture and livestock sectors but the provincial government is taking all possible measures to tackle the situation.

Khosa and Finance Minister Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani visited the drought-hit area in Rakhshan division on Friday to review the conditions.

Fortunately, the province has not witnessed any fatality due to the drought, the ministers said. A relief operation has been launched in drought-hit areas where ration and essential goods are being distributed among affected families, they added.

They said that the relief operation was being conducted under the special directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal who was monitoring the entire process.
Moreover, the CM has pledged to allocate more funds for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) as per its demand, they added.

The ministers highlighted that personal visits to the areas were imperative to ascertaining the ground situation of the areas. They also said such visits would continue in other regions as well because the provincial government had vowed to provide relief to the families compelled to leave their homes.

Rakhshan Division Commissioner Naseer Ahmed Nasir said a survey of all four drought-hit districts has been completed and the situation must be controlled in the initial stages.

“Arrangements have been completed to provide food for affected people and their livestock, while medicines will be distributed among ailing people of drought-hit areas,” said Nasir.
