Govt orders strict action against vehicles of tax defaulters

RAWALPINDI: Excise and Taxation (ET) Rawalpindi impounded 31 vehicles while 333 were challaned in Rawalpindi division under its general hold up launched against token tax defaulters, improper number plates and unregistered vehicles.

Excise and Taxation Assistant Officer Sohail Shahzad informed that following the directives of ET Rawalpindi Director Chaudhry Muhammad Sohail Arshad and Rawalpindi Motor-vehicle Registration Authority (MRA) Officer Malik Amjad Ali Khan and MRA-II, Sohail Sabir, eight special teams checked a large number of vehicles at different points of the district and impounded 26 vehicles while also confiscating 250 registration books and other documents of the token tax defaulters.

He stated that the teams conducted special checking of vehicles under his supervision while excise inspectors, Gul Sher Khan, Raza Shah, Zulfiqar Abbas, Ehtisham ul Haq, Jahangir Khan, Ajmal Bhatti and Fayyaz Babar were in charge of the teams deployed in different areas.

He said that the authorities concerned have strictly ordered to tighten the noose around the vehicles of token and other taxes defaulters. The department will not release any impounded vehicles until the defaulters pay the tax, he added.

Special teams also checked vehicles in Chakwal District and impounded five while documents of 27 vehicles were confiscated during the operation.

The teams of Jhelum district confiscated documents of 30 vehicles of tax defaulters. Attock teams in their operation challaned 26 vehicles, he added. He further informed that the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department Secretary Sher Alam Mahsood visited Excise and Taxation Rawalpindi and reviewed the recovery campaign of the different sections. The Secretary expressed satisfaction over the recovery progress. He directed the authorities to take solid steps for achieving 100 percent targets set by the government.
