QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has stressed the need for eliminating corruption from all spheres of society.

In a statement on the International Anti-Corruption Day, the chief minister said without eliminating corruption and implementing good governance governments cannot provide better facilities to the masses.

He shared that the provincial government has been taking solid measures to discourage corruption from the province.

“The government of Balochistan has functionalised the Anti-Corruption Department and the Chief Minister Inspection Team to keep strict watch on corrupt elements in provincial departments,” said Kamal.

He lamented that due to corruption the province did not achieve major development.

Stressing upon self-accountability, Kamal said the country has potential to eliminate flaws and evils including corruption from society, but without the support of the public governments cannot eradicate corruption.

“Unfortunately, the menace of corruption has tightened its grip on society, the CM said, adding that lack of administration in government departments have emboldened some elements to indulge in corrupt practices in the province.

Kamal said: “The provincial government has been taking steps on immediate basis to stamp out corruption from all government departments. But every individual in society must join our hands in this anti-corruption purge in the province”.

He lauded the performance of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan against corrupt elements in the province.

The chief minister called upon the media and influential people of the province to play their role in eradicating the menace of corruption.
Awareness against corruption should be spread among our young generation as they will hold the reins of Pakistan in the future, he added.

“On World Anti-Corruption Day we should reiterate self-accountability and vow to not take part in any corrupt practice and won’t let others to do corruption,” said Kamal.

In another message on the day, NAB Balochistan DG Muhammad Abid Javed called upon the nation to exploit their efforts in ending corruption.

The DG said the menace of corruption is the prime cause of uncertainty, economic instability, poverty and injustice in society. He said nations who made efforts for eradication of corruption emerged as most prosperous countries.

“The resolution of the United Nations against corruption discusses the precedents of near past but our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had termed corruption as root cause of all evils centuries ago,” the DG said, adding that nations and regimes which encouraged corruption faced worst crisis.

The director general said parents must educate their children about the ill effects of corruption. “Teachers in schools should inculcate the sense of honesty in students.”

Talking about weak accountability system, Javed said flawed systems set our country back.

“Without joint efforts the scourge of corruption cannot be wiped out from the country,” he added.
