KARACHI: A vehicle parked in an empty plot in the Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Khayaban-e-Mujahid area exploded early Monday morning, said police.

According to DIG South Javed Odho, "the blast was caused by a homemade vehicle-borne improvised explosive device".

No casualties were reported in the blast which took place near the Khadda Market area.

The senior police official added that the vehicle was earlier stolen from Jamshed Quarters on Sunday.

"At least eight to 10 kilograms of explosives combined with seven gas cylinders caused the explosion, along with a six metre long detonating cord."

DIG Odho further stated that the likely motive of the blast was to spread fear among citizens.

Bomb Disposal Squad collected evidence from the site of the incident and more information regarding the incident will be released after investigation, said officials.
