Two criminals jailed for 29 years in Karachi

The court also imposes a fine of Rs55,000 on each of the two criminals

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday sentenced Shoaib Quraishi and Imran Soomro, accused of possession of weapons and an encounter with the police, to 29-years imprisonment. The hearing was held at the anti-terrorism complex in Karachi Central Jail.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs55,000 on each of the two criminals.  In case of non-payment of the penalty, the convicts will stay imprisoned further nine months.



Attack on media houses

The hearing for the cases against anti-state slogans and attack on media house, held before a special anti-terrorism court, could not proceed further due to the absence of the investigation officer (IO) and was adjourned till January 5.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan, Kunwar Naveed, Qamar Mansoor, Shahid Pasha and others appeared before the court.

Special public prosecutor Sajid Mehboob Sheikh argued that the prosecution had requested that the hearing be adjourned. The court ordered the IOs and witnesses to ensure their presence at the next hearing. The court had indicted 60 accused in previous hearing. Case was filed against the accused in the police station artillery ground.



Hearing adjourned

The hearing of cases against former provincial home minister Zulfiqar Mirza and other accused was adjourned by a special ATC till December 13, due to the absence of special public prosecutor.
